Classic Rock Icons In Horror Films
Music and film seem to go hand in hand these days with so many musicians crossing over into the world of acting (and vice versa). Some of Classic Rock’s iconic singers haven’t been immune from venturing onto the silver screen, especially in horror movies. Just in time for Halloween, we look at some of our favorite Classic Rock icons and the horror movies they’ve appeared in.

Tony Basil Before her single, “Mickey”, became a hit, Tony Basil had already appeared in several movies including “Easy Rider”, “Five Easy Pieces” and the Monkees’ “Head”. She later ventured into the realm of horror, starring in 1988’s “Slaughterhouse Rock” and 1990’s “Rockula”.

Jon Bon Jovi Although he’s spent most of his career as the front man for his band, Bon Jovi, Jon has appeared in a few roles including the horror films “Cry Wolf” and the “Vampires” sequel, “Vampires – Los Muertos”.

Sonny Bono He may have made his career by being part of the duo, Sonny and Cher, but Sonny Bono also ventured into film. Appearing mostly on a variety of TV series, Sonny also showed up in several movies, including a turn as Peter Dickinson in the movie “Trolls”.

David Bowie Some people might only remember Bowie’s appearances as Jareth in “Labyrinth”, Tesla in “The Prestige” or as himself in a comedic cameo spot in “Zoolander”. However, he also ventured into horror in 1983’s vampire flick, “The Hunger”, playing the character, John.

Alice Cooper Although he’s ventured onto the big (and small) screen since the 1970s, Alice Cooper is just as well known for his comedic roles (“Wayne’s World”, anyone?) as well as appearing in a couple of horror flicks. Some of his best-known horror film roles include the rock star Vince Raven in 1984’s “Monster Dog”, Street Schizo in John Carpenter’s “Prince of Darkness” and a turn as Freddy Kreuger’s father in “Freddy’s Dead – The Final Nightmare”. He would also play himself in 2012’s version of “Dark Shadows”.

Cherie Currie After leaving the Runaways, Cherie Currie ventured into acting. She appeared in the 1982 horror flick “Parasite” and in 1983’s “Twilight Zone – The Movie”.

Micky Dolenz Micky Dolenz was already an established actor before joining the Monkees. After the band’s heyday, he’s continued to appear in films including 2007’s “Halloween” remake.

Debbie Harry The lead singer for Blondie, has also appeared in a number of movies over the years, including the horror flicks “Videodrome” and “Tales from the Darkside – The Movie”.

Meat Loaf There might be some things he won’t do, but acting isn’t one of those for Meat Loaf. He’s appeared in plenty of films, including the horror-comedy “Stage Fright”, an uncredited role in 2010’s “Burning Bright”, “Urban Decay”, the vampire flick “BloodRayne” and, who can forget the “Rocky Horror Picture Show”!

Ozzy Osbourne The Prince of Darkness has starred, not only on his popular TV show, but in films as well. He appeared in 1986’s “Trick or Treat” as Reverend Aaron Gilstrom and as a famous rock star in 2016’s “Ghostbusters”.

Iggy Pop Another iconic Classic Rock artist, Iggy Pop, has also ventured into film, portraying a wide array of characters. He recently appeared as a coffee obsessed zombie in “The Dead Don’t Die”.

Gene Simmons As the Demon of kiss, Gene Simmons seems to have done it all, including acting in movies and TV. He’s played Nuke in 1985’s “Trick or Treat” and don’t forgot about Kiss’ 1978 made for TV movie, “KISS Meets the Phantom of the Park”.

Dee Snider Best known as the front man for the band Twisted Sister, Dee Snider has occasionally ventured out into the realm of acting. He’s starred as Captain Howdy in 1998’s “Strangeland” and in the last “Sharknado” movie.

Sting The front man for the Police might be better known for his role in “Dune” and an appearance in “Zoolander 2”, but he also starred as Dr. Frankenstein in the 1985 horror film, “The Bride”.
